Technical Degree Programs

By focusing on job-search resources to locate career opportunities, new graduates may be able to land high-paying jobs in computer programming, health care, or business administration. An associates degree is a two-year program that either results in an Associate of Arts (AA) or Associate of Science (AS) degree. It is a general degree that is structured similarly to the first two years of a bachelor's degree. The single greatest downside to an associates degrees in the job market is that you will be competing with individuals holding bachelor's degrees. Therefore, make sure you're highly skilled in the niche you've chosen.

Many young people who are familiar with new technology such as developing apps for the iPad and iPhone, may focus on building an e-business, if the job market is tight. Candidates with prior industry experience are preferred by interviewers, but an applicant's past experience must be relevant to the particular job vacancy that the company needs to fill. Your resume must show a clear pattern of numeric success over time. Companies frequently publish rankings, offer various awards and incentives, and conduct monthly reviews of employee performance.

The main challenge in getting your degree is to choose a career that you will be able to pursue for many years. The job vacancies for website designers are still increasing, as retail firms move a greater percentage of their business online. Also, as the healthcare industry relies heavily on electronic medical records in order to protect patients' personal data.

There is indeed a shortage of nurses, but the education required is very demanding. Community colleges offer an Associate of Science degree in Nursing, and some diploma programs also award certificates in practical nursing. Nurse training is a function of your ability to learn, and whether you choose to attend nursing school full-time or part-time. Deciding whether to get an associates degree or a bachelors degree should depend on your career goals and anticipated budget.

Business & Medical Job Listings

Although most jobs which pay six-figure salaries require a college degree, technical fields offer high salaries based more on ability than which school you graduated from. Students will impress future bosses more with an impressive portfolio than with an advanced degree, so practice your skills as a consultant for local companies. Candidates with prior industry experience are preferred by interviewers, so you resume must show a clear pattern of success over time, based on numeric results and personal achievements.
